Drinking Plenty Of Water

We all need to drink plenty of water, especially children. It helps to keep their bodies working and is most important when they are active and when it’s hot.

Give more of these

  • Water is best – It’s cheap and easy to get.Do you have a jug of water in the fridge ?
  • Milk is also a good drink for children because it contains energy, protein,vitamins and minerals.

Give them less of these

Fruit juice is not the best because it is actually full of sugar. That surprises a lot of people. If you are drinking juice , consider diluting it. Maybe go 50/50 with water . We all need to drink plenty of water, especially children. It helps to keep their bodies working and is most important when they are active and when it’s hot. It’s better it is drunk with a meal rather than on it’s own. But be careful when it comes to children, because eating all of their dinner is more important than drinking.

Soft drinks are high in sugar and some contain caffeine. They should only be an occasional drink and no more than once a week. I don’t think it hurts kids to have a treat at the likes of a birthday party or family get together.

Don’t give these

Don’t encourage children to drink tea or coffee. Actually , maybe don’t let them have it at all. Why ? Well, it can affect their sleep and also cause dehydration. There is also substances in tea and coffee that can reduce the amount of iron they can gain from food.

Don’t give energy drinks,shots or drinks containing guarana. They also contain caffeine and many are high is sugar.

So , encourage children to drink a lot of water. Be a good example yourself. Beyond that , always remember , everything in moderation.
