Forming Healthy Habits

At this time of year, many people have made a new years resolution , or set new goals. Let’s be honest … how many times have these intentions only lasted a few weeks without results made ? Let’s look at some good habits to implement so we can continue the year feeling like progress is being made.

Eating

We all love eating. It’s fuel , and some of it is really yummy. Maybe too much has been eaten or drank over christmas. Your body will then need nourishment with the focus to rebalance your digestive system. If it is not working properly, the binges of Christmas & New Years have trouble clearing.

Give these tips a try –

Drink freshly squeezed lemon with honey and warm water first thing every morning.  This helps to flush out your digestive tract and liver before you put any food into your body but also nourishing your immune system.

Try eating  light foods as they put less stress on your digestive system in the warmer months. Go for salads, but not just leaves- bolt them up with nourishing carbohydrates like beetroot, pumpkin or kumara.

Vary your vegetables by eating all the colours. Add lots of green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach, celery and broccoli. When it comes to fruit, top picks are digestive fruits.  Think about fruit such as pineapple, mango, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries . Smoothies are a good way to get nutrients in. Be sure to balance them with vegetables and fruit.

Exercising

Summer  means sunshine,  so make the most of it in and do as much exercise outside as possible.  This fulfils many important elements to wellness such as joy, connection and nature. Some not so intense exercise should not be discounted, as that is just as beneficial as going to the gym.

Good adventuring to some different places you haven’t been before. Go for a hike, explore the bush or reserve and get amongst the trees.

Go to the beach with family and friends. Take a ball or frisbee. Play some beach games and of course go for a swim

Dance …… it’s a good time to get some friends together and go for a boogie. Don’t worry if you feel you can’t dance. It’s just simply about having a good time.

Go for a bike ride around town or explore the countryside. Get your body moving and release some feel good feelings.

Supplement Intake

If you have hit the treats and perhaps alcohol really hard during the holidays,  there are extra nutrients that will help you get a good kick start on your health. Here are some additions you may want to think about taking.

B vitamins are important for your metabolism to create energy from the food you eat. It are also involved in brain function and the health of your adrenal glands which helps assist with stress management and hormone balancing. Having a big night drinking alcohol strips your body of vitamin B.

Probiotics will help to rebuild the good bacteria in your gut that assists with a healthy digestive system. Foods that are high in fat and sugar, along with alcohol, kill off good bacteria and allow the bad ones to breed.
